The time sure does fly

Well, here we are, just over a month away from our lil man turning a year old (HELP!!!!!), and as usual, I've been pretty slack at keeping up with the blog. Too busy enjoying Xani and trying to keep up with him to remember to stop and throw on a quick blog entry here and there. LOL!

Squigs is so close to walking, it's kinda scary. He'll be standing there one moment, holding onto something he's leaning against, then he just lets go and... stands there, unsupported!! Until he realises, or gets distracted by something, then his well-padded posterior takes a thumping as he usually sits down hard and fast. I seriously don't think it'll be much longer before he's trying to take those all-important first steps. He's already cruising the furniture (and people, and boxes, and anything else within reach... this boy HAS to move, preferably while up on his feet!), and LOVES getting into anything and everything. A firm NO has become a very common echo in this house, not that it does much good. We tend to get one of two reactions to that nasty word... either whoever said no gets looked at from under his lashes, then gets that "cheeky-I-don't-care" grin before he's trying to repeat whatever he just got told off for. Or... he pauses in his actions, looks at whoever said no... and starts up the crocodile tears. Oh yes, most definitely crocodile tears, coz there has been many a time when they have started, only to stop a few seconds later so he can throw me a quick grin, before resuming the "oh woe is me, I got told off by my mean Mummy" act. He just can't seem to help himself... he HAS to grin. This boy is hardly EVER unhappy, and usually if he is, it's simply because he's in desperate need of a nap, or someone's not filling his belly fast enough for his liking. Typical male huh... they say you can win a guy over through his stomach, and Xani is definitely proving to be one to follow that rule.
Squeals of delight, happy babbling, constant giggles... these are the sounds that fill this house when Xani's awake. He chases everything that moves... his toy car, an empty lift plus can, the rats, the cats, his brother... if it moves, it's fair game to be chased. Plonk him in a box and drag it round the house as fast as you can go, and you'll be rewarded with a huge grin (now showing 4 lil toothy pegs!! Two top and two bottom.). Grab him by the ankles and swing him upside down, round and round, earns major bouts of chuckling... as does zipping him up in his sleepsack, grabbing it in both hands (usually along the zip), and swinging him back and forth (or just rocking him, or lifting up and down.. great for building up arm muscles!! LOL!). Our boy is clearly insane... and already living up to his namesake. We are indeed, living in the Xander Zone!! I LOVE IT! LOL! He is so active, so happy... and that grin and those big blue eyes just make me melt every time, which makes it REALLY hard to stay grumpy at him when I'm trying to tell him off, coz he's done something naughty.. again!

One of Xan's favourite activities these days is standing at the rat cage, watching all his friends running around. He is totally fascinated by them. If he sees a rat on one of us, he gives a huge grin and gets all excited... and there's always a giggle or two when a whiskery face tickles him when one of the girls gets up close to say hello. If I happen to have the rats out for free-range time when Xani's up and about (and not tucked safely into his highchair), and he spots them, then it's all on, and I'm trying to chase both rat and ratbag Xani through the house, trying to make sure we don't end up with a rat pancake!!!

Another new favourite thing of Xani's.. is having a bath with his big brother. Until recently, he's had showers more than baths, simply because my back can't handle the bending over to support him in the bath, and once he started sitting on his own, he tended to slip and slide all over the place, which freaked him out so much that baths caused him to start crying as soon as I'd put him in. So we stuck to showers, and the odd bath here and there. Very recently though, Xani has learned how to keep his balance in the slippery bath, and that splashing and toys in the bath can be a lot of fun. Then tonight I got Gordy to hop in with him... and that was it! Giggles galore from both of them, a constant stream of babble from Xani... and two very happy, clean boys at the end of it. So this will now be happening a lot more often... just so cute to watch Xani kneeling in the bath, all excited and splashing, laughing when his silly brother gets a cup of water poured over him (not too sure about having one poured over himself tho... no longer starts crying about it, but still acts a lil freaked and worried and tries to get away).

Well, that's enough of my ramble for now. Kinda all over the place, but at least it's somewhat updated.. lol! We'll see how long before the next update. :P
